Finally, I would note that Aaron's concerns and requests, are not aimed at altering Harvard's investment policy, or dictating the composition of the faculty, or other issues of grand scale that some students take on, perhaps to the neglect of their studies. He is simply trying to find a way to enjoy learning, which is what he came to Harvard to do and which is one of the chief activities that Harvard professes to value.

This, in turn, elicited an even longer response from Dean Bean, who mistakenly ignored my father's degrees and professorship. He totally misunderstood the reason I had asked my father to intervene. I was merely a freshman (and apparently a "very good man" who was "frittering" away much "psychic energy" by focusing on things that were negative), but my father was an alum, a minor donor to the University, and a university professor himself. If my arguments didn't hold sway because I had not yet achieved the status required for the administration to listen, then I thought that someone in my father's position might be more successful at making my case.

Sensing that the battle might never end, and now further enraged, my father gave his next e-mail the subject, "to be read on weekend or holiday." and hit the Send button.

I will defer a lengthy response to your e-mail of Feb. 1, encourage you to continue your efforts on Aaron's behalf, hold you and your colleagues to your implied pledge to work for Aaron's best interests, and note that none of your inferences regarding my putative misapprehensions are either logically valid or actually true.
